Rhode Bath-Schéba MAKOUMBOU is a Congolese born female painter and sculptor resident in Belgium. Her works represent daily activities in Africa, especially women activities.
She describes her work as a personal expression of one of the richness of her continent…Africa.
The artist emphasizes on the social activities of African women. She uses a unique approach in exhibiting her work …which is by using knives to create oil paintings. These paintings and sculptors she insists are creations that are a representation of rural life scenes, with an emphasis on celebrating the essential role of women in those societies expressed in realistic and cubic style.
Rhode Bath-Schéba Makoumbou was born on August 29, 1976 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. As a child her father, also a painter David MAKOUMBOU, initiated her into the art of painting. She became really engaged in the art in 1989.
Since 2002, she has been creating sculptures from compound materials such as sawdust, wood and glue. Some of her sculptures are over 3 meters (9.84 feet) tall.
Her carrier grew and she went international with her work in 2003…taking part in several exhibitions since then.
So far Mrs. Makoumbou has already participated in exhibitions in Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, France, Belgium, Niger, Cameroon, United States, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Germany, Senegal, Morocco, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, Nederland and Switzerland.
